Bio-based materials for appliances – The Electrolux experience

Electrolux has developed the world’s first refrigerator prototype where all the visible plastic parts are made of bioplastics from renewable sources. The bioplastic for the refrigerator (PLA) has a more than 80% lower carbon footprint compared to the conventional plastics used today (PS). Furher improvements concern a more homogeneous wall thickness, improved asthetics, high gloss, food contact compliancy, higher chemical and light resistance.
